		<description>Regarding the ptarmigan behavior.  I encountered similar activity on the Eiffel Lake trail up in Banff.  They&#039;d walk on the trail making quiet noises before veering off.  One of them I followed to get pictures, wherein she (I assume) did the broken-wing routine.  It was then I noticed she had some chicks nearby and she was purposely distracting me away from them.  I obliged by taking her photo and leaving her chicks alone.</description>
